Pathways
Welcome to the exciting world of Y Community Schools
Why choose Y Whittlesea?
At Y Community School, our commitment to every student’s success means providing the tailored support and pathways they need to set and achieve their goals.
Whether a student aims to undertake a trade, engage in hands-on work experience or access alternative education pathways beyond school, our school is designed to support each step of the journey.
We recognise that each student’s pathway is unique and that traditional academic routes aren’t the only path to success. Our programs ensure every learner has access to a broad range of post-school alternatives and personalised options aligned to their interests and strengths.
Our holistic approach helps students identify their strengths, interests and aspirations, then map a personalised pathway to achieve them. This pathway mapping enables students to explore possibilities, take informed steps and prepare for life beyond school.
Once a pathway is mapped, our dedicated pathways team supports students through a variety of opportunities, including:
Industry Tasters
Short, introductory experiences that allow students to sample different industries. These sessions are usually brief and exploratory, designed to help students understand what various jobs involve before committing to a specific pathway. This could be held onsite or in the form of an excursion or Career Expo.
Work Experience
A short-term, hands-on placement where students actively participate in a workplace related to their interests. They gain practical skills, meet professionals, and learn what day-to-day work looks like. Work experience is unpaid Minimal pay and focused on learning.
Work Placement
An ongoing, structured placement where students work regularly in a field of interest. Unlike work experience, work placements often include paid opportunities, offer deeper skill development, and can lead to future employment, apprenticeships, or traineeships.
School-based apprenticeships/ traineeships
Combining study and work in a structured program, developing vocational expertise.
Vocational Education and Training (VET)
Access to qualifications (Certificates II, III, IV; Diplomas) that enhance skills, employability and post-school options.
Career education and guidance
Specialist advice, resources and support to help students navigate their future journey, from exploring paths to achieving professional goals.
